This
weekend, Tiphaine had 2 days off! In fact, Sunday was the women's day, and
apparently all male workers still have to work while the women has a day off.
Robert
the new trainee for SocialTours wasn't that happy to find out, since he didn't
even know he was supposed to work Sundays!
Luckily I
follow the Norwegian working times so I have Sunday off from work ;) We decided
to spend a day in Bhaktapur, one of the oldest cities of the valley. Tiphaine's
colleagues have warmly recommended us to go for a trip to a Danish-owned
organic farm, remotely hidden somewhere between Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Well,
a little stress before departure, because no taxi driver knows this farm.
Finally, a colleague arranges a car with a private driver for us, for a very
nominal fee. So off we went, on a Friday evening on the chaotic and congested
roads out of the capital. Hit the road, Jack!
We
arrived around 20h, and it is pitch black. Moment of stress: no light is lit.
But ultimately, a man walks up to us, with a huge grin: "you take a little
tea? ". The tea is delicious, the head of the farm is an interesting hyper
happy guy, the building is actually a 90-years old Newari building (typical of
the valley), made of bricks and mud. Our room was very small, but overlooks
the garden (we will report at sunrise). We have a huge mosquito net over the
bed, and honestly it is needed: in 2 days, Tiphaine took eight mosquito bites
in the face, without the net I doubt we would have been able to do much.
The
bathroom is outside at the end of the garden, and between the locusts (insane
chirping noises during the night), Owls, pigeons and dogs also makes the night
feel alive.
We are 3
sleeping here: a young Mexican girl and us. We spend the evening getting to
know each other before we hit the sack.
